John Baxter is a composer, conductor, and scholar whose work spans film, television, concert music, and collegiate teaching. Originally from Hattiesburg, Mississippi, he began studying piano at age 8 and composing at age 13 before continuing his musical work at Yale University, New York University, and the University of Miami Frost School of Music, where he earned his Doctor of Musical Arts in Composition.

As a media composer, John has contributed music to more than 45 films, series, podcasts, commercials, and games, collaborating with directors around the world. His credits include The Cloaked Realm, Yesterday Is Almost Here, Moments of Youth, Wanton Want, and Sheltering Season. His work on The Cloaked Realm has received multiple honors, including a Bronze Telly Award for Best Use of Music.
John is also active in the concert music world. He won The American Prize in Composition for Through it All, and his orchestral work Rhapsodia won the Frost Symphony Orchestra Composition Competition. His music has been selected for performances and festivals including the Sofia Symphonic Summit, Space City New Music Festival, Hot Air Music Festival, and the International Composers’ Festival.
In addition to composing, John teaches music theory, commercial music, and music technology, and has served as a conductor and music director for orchestras, choirs, and theatrical productions. He is currently based in Los Angeles, California.
